YouTube Latest Tool: A/B Testing for Titles & Thumbnails

The new update of YouTube’s A/B testing feature allows you to also test the titles of your YouTube videos. The feature is an enhancement of the previous thumbnail test & compare feature, allowing creators to test their thumbnails, and now they can also do a YouTube A/B test of their titles. The feature is currently under testing and is available to a select group of creators. But here’s what we know about it so far.

How YouTube’s A/B Testing for Titles and Thumbnails Works?

As discussed, you can do A/B testing for Titles and thumbnails. The Creators can upload three thumbnails while uploading their video. The audience sees thumbnails of each type.

For example, there are three thumbnails, A, B, and C. If the video with the B thumbnail gets more watch time and CTRs, then the B thumbnail is selected as the winner. If another thumbnail comes close to the watch time metric or CTR of the winner thumbnail and title, then it is marked as preferred.

Once the test is finished, the winner’s thumbnail or title will automatically be set as the thumbnail and title of the video. The test lasts for an hour or weeks. Usually, the A/B test waits to gather enough data to announce the result. If enough data is collected quickly, then the test can be concluded within hours. You can learn about the YouTube A/B testing tool in detail.

Currently, the feature is available to a few creators only. The creators can view the results in YouTube Studio by navigating to their video in the Content tab. Click the video and look for the view test report.

Conclusion

YouTube’s Test and Compare feature has been updated. Previously, a few creators could test their thumbnails by adding three thumbnails. The video with the highest watch time and CTR would be selected as the winner and automatically be set as the primary thumbnail. Now, the creators can do the same for Titles as well. Everything is the same now; creators can now see results for thumbnails and titles in the Content tab of YouTube Studio. Currently, the test and compare feature is in its beta phase and is available to a select few creators only.
