YouTube’s Monetization Update: Pushing Creators to Originality & Authenticity

YouTube has rolled out new updates regarding the monetization policy. From July 15, 2025, the qualification requirements for the YouTube Partner Program will be stricter. The content of YouTubers has to be original and authentic. The guidelines have been updated to prevent creators from uploading repetitive content or mass-produced AI-generated content.

Why the YouTube Monetization Policy was updated

The new updates are to target two types of content. First, mass-produced content generated by AI that lacks unique value and originality. Secondly, the repetitive upload of content. Uploading multiple versions of the duplicate content with slight edits or using someone else’s content with little to no edits.

The new updates simply mean that if a YouTuber’s content is not original and authentic, then it will be difficult for them to get monetized.

Who will be most affected by the YouTube monetization policy update?

YouTube report hasn’t provided a well-defined document, but based on the policy’s crux, we can make an educated guess about which channels are likely to be affected first.

Reaction Channels: YouTubers who simply watch other people’s content without engaging or taking action can be affected by the policy. If they are not adding value to the reaction content, then it’s just copyright infringement and needs to be unmonetized.

Compilation Channels: Simply joining other creator’s content without adding anything from your side can lead to demonetized content and also result in a copyright strike.

Too Much AI-Generated Content: If you are not creating something original or valuable, it will lead to demonetization.

Repetitive Content: Increasing the speed of the video or changing its color won’t help it monetize. The new YouTube update will easily detect it.

Conclusion

Recently, YouTube has introduced a series of updates aimed at enhancing the platform’s safety, improving the user experience, and protecting creators’ efforts.  For example, YouTube increased the live stream limit to 16 years and added AI-powered features. Now, with this latest update, the original and authentic content will be more likely to monetize.
