The American dream has now landed in the UK. The US YouTube advocacy group has constantly tried to explain to the government the importance of the creator economy. The group showed how content creation is helping the community, its citizens, and the American economy.
The same movement has followed in the UK, backed by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG). The group claims that they will act as a bridge between UK creators and Westminster”. In the blog, we will explore the intent behind the YouTube advocacy group. How it will benefit the creators and why the UK government should consider it.
What is the YouTube Advocacy Group?
Digital creators also contribute to a nation’s economy. However, they are often neglected by the government. To highlight this very point, a YouTube advocacy group has been formed.
According to a BBC article, UK YouTube content creators contribute $2.2 billion to their economy. However, the creators are lacking the proper skills to prosper. Even if they are talented and interested in content creation. They get stuck because of funding, a studio, or permits.
In the UK, the issue will be formally addressed by the All-Party-Parliamentary Group (APPG). Aiming to frame a creator economic policy, helping them in the long run.
YouTube Advocacy Group in the UK
In the US, YouTubers MatPat and Stephanie Patrick worked with Democrat & Republican senators Yvette Clarke(D-NY) and Beth(R-TX) in the Congressional Creators Caucus.
The Caucus’s goal is to educate members of parliament about the importance of the creator economy and to encourage them to view it from a crucial economic perspective. So that they can derive policies that support it.
The goal of APPG is similar to US Caucus. The APPG is run by the Digital Creator Association and Influencer Marketing Trade Body. The advocacy group is also co-chaired by former digital minister Feryal Clark MP and Lord ED Vaizey.
The association with important names demonstrates their confidence in content creators. The policymakers need to witness that people can earn money with content creation and contribute to nation’s economy.
Additionally, APPG will deepen policymakers’ understanding of the internet and social media. To show the UK government the importance of content creators, they organized a creator consultation, during which they gathered feedback from 10,000 UK creators. This feedback will help the APPG identify the gaps.
Conclusion
As they said, they will act as a bridge by identifying the problems faced by content creators and presenting their perspective to Westminster. The YouTube advocacy group is creating an ecosystem that benefits creators, individuals, and the economy. Currently, APPG is more focused on developing funding opportunities and the filming infrastructure for creators.
