YouTube Changes How Short Views Are Counted For Creator

Now you get more views on your YT shorts!

YouTube shorts metric helps creators understand how their content performs. But now, the platform has made a slight change in how it counts YouTube short views, and it is for good. YouTube Shorts is updating its performance metrics display, making it more insightful and beneficial for creators. Here’s what you need to catch up!

YouTube Counts Every Play & Replay Of Shorts To Provide Better Metric

YOUTUBE SHORTS METRIC

YouTube announced that it is changing the metrics of how YouTube Shorts has been counting. It says YouTube will now count the number of times a YT short starts to play or is replayed with no minimum watch time required.

Earlier, YouTube used to count views when a short was played for a certain number of seconds. But YouTube is now bringing this change up because creators want to understand how their shorts are seen.

YouTube shorts metric will implemented from 31st March 2025.

You can still see your short in YouTube analytics under ‘Engaged Views,’ which is a rebranded version of Advanced Mode.

Creators who have yet to meet the YouTube partner program eligibility requirement know that their metrics will now be based on Engaged Views.

YouTube seems to pick up with TikTok and Instagram reels. It will measure views similarly to the platforms, counting all the plays. This is to let the creator easily understand the YT short’s  performance along with the short view metrics.

Conclusion

YouTube’s new short metric will boost the views of shorts for creators as they have started counting the replays. This change is to help beginners speed up their YouTube growth. Now that the creator can create shorts for up to 3 minutes, the engagement rate tends to boost over time. If you make YouTube worth watching, you will generate more views than usual and meet the YPP requirement faster.
